Groot Heidestein

Hidden in the woods near Zeist are Heidestein and the Bornia estate. The marked hiking trail takes you through the varied forest with characteristic pines and remains of the historic estates. Most impressive are the vast moors. The entire Utrechtse Heuvelrug looked like this over a hundred years ago. A herd of Drenth Heath sheep grazes the heath around this area. An information center of Utrechts Landschap is located in an old sheepfold.

Climbing forest Zeist

Go on an outdoor adventure in the climbing forest! A challenging course for young and old, where you can be active outside in the green surroundings. The climbing adventure starts in the renovated restaurant and takes you via an adventurous route to the Tower of Tije', the starting point of the climbing forest. This climbing forest has 2 climbing routes with 4 zip lines, wooden paths, rope bridges, balancing ropes, and much more. To make the adventure complete, there are various facilities on the ground.

National Military Museum

Visitors to the National Military Museum are immediately taken aback by the sight of the imposing building. And you're not even inside yet! Tanks, airplanes and, for example, a rocket launcher are found in the large hall with thirteen meters high, glass walls. Admire these sturdy tools of the Dutch army and air force and wander through the entire Arsenal.

The Pyramid of Austerlitz

A visit to 'the Pyramid' is a feast for the whole family. The wooded area is ideal for a beautiful walk. You can also relax on the spacious terrace where you can enjoy cool drinks, ice cream, pancakes, snacks, and various meals. The catering area contains a snack bar, a restaurant, and a pavilion.

The Pyramid itself is perhaps one of the best-known sights in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug region. Did you know that you only have to climb 81 steps to enjoy the beautiful view of the entire area?

Shelter De Ezelsociëteit

In the Netherlands, Shelter De Ezelsociëteit in Zeist provides shelter for donkeys in need: sick, neglected, abused and old donkeys are given shelter in Zeist or at foster addresses elsewhere in the Netherlands.

You can visit the donkeys in Zeist everyday between 11:00 AM and 04:00 PM.

Children's farm De Brink

You will not only find the animals that traditionally inhabited the Dutch farms here, but there is also equipment specially installed for the children to play with, and picnic tables where you can enjoy the activity at the petting zoo. Mountainbiken

The Utrechtse Heuvelrug – with its narrow forest paths, vicious descents, and challenging hills – is ideally suited for avid cyclists such as mountain bikers. Beginner or advanced, there is a suitable challenge in the National Park for every mountain biker.

The Utrechtse Heuvelrug has 9 mountain bike routes, in total good for about 95 kilometers of cycling adrenaline: Amerongen, Austerlitz, Hoge Ginkel, Hoge Vuursche, Kwintelooijen, Lage Vuursche, Leersum, Rhenen and Zeist. Mountain bikers are welcome on these routes, as long as they have a vignette and respect other visitors of this location. All routes can be found on the MTB Utrechtse Heuvelrug website.
